'Minecraft Dungeons' on XCloud has been Optimized for Touchscreens

Microsoft's long-awaited xCloud game streaming service is officially launched on the 15th of April with more than 150 games. One of the games available is Minecraft Dungeons, and Microsoft has just announced that the developers Mojang Studios and Double Eleven have made it easier to play the game on the move by optimizing it for touchscreen controls. You can now play the game on your Android tablet or smartphone without having to connect an external controller.

The majority of Xbox games included in xCloud were designed with the Xbox controller as a focus. Microsoft assumes that most users will play with their controllers by connecting them to their smartphones. However, in this instance, Microsoft wanted the game to feel like it was designed for mobile devices, which is why it'll feature not just touch controls, but also a redesigned interface that is better suited for the small screen. This should make it easier to navigate menus or inventories, as well as the tiny text that may come with it.



As for optimizing the gameplay for touchscreens, Microsoft notes that moves that players perform the best (move, melee, ranged attack and dodge) are in the most "intuitive" places on the screen. The idea is that the whole experience will feel like the game was designed with mobile in mind, rather than a touch-based control being a last resort. We'll be playing the game to determine how successful they were but it's a positive indicator that Microsoft is thinking about ways to make games more enjoyable even when they're not on the TV.
