SIP Trunking - SIP Trunking 101

SIP Trunking is a great option since it cuts the need of a variety of phone wirings. Also, SIP trunks can actually handle multiple phone calls simultaneously. However, there is the possibility that too many calls will produce heavy bandwidth traffic which can cause interruptions to the company's network. So what most companies do is to simply use multiple trunks to avoid this sort of issue from happening. Finally, a company can purchase SIP Trunking from various providers, so there are many choices of services to pick from.



Let's say an employee of a company is making an outgoing call to a typical mobile phone number. This phone is covered by the PSTN or the Public Switched Telephone Network. This is the most popular telephone network that we know. The SIP Trunking utilized by the company will alter the IP of the number being called to make it PSTN, which is the nearest to the number being called. Trunking will make it appear as if the employee is calling from the same local network. This improves the quality of the call and could even save the company from long distance charges. This type of setting can also be used in the reverse direction. Let's suppose that a company that provides SIP services provides local PSTN numbers to customers across different regions. Instead of calling operators and having to transfer calls, customers who dial these local numbers will be automatically transferred to the company's PBX. This allows the company to provide low-cost and easy calls to their customers.



Session Initiation Protocol Trunking, also known as SIP Trunking, is a communications connection offered by a few internet-related companies like ITSP and ISP. This involves connecting the Private Branch Exchange (PBX), of the company, to its phone system via internet servers. This then opens up the possibility of using Voice-over Internet Protocol or VoIP.
