In just under a decade, Technoblade amassed nearly 11 million YouTube subscribers and 3.7 million Twitter followers as he shared his love for Minecraft, a video game where users can build virtual worlds using blocks and come up with their own storylines. He went public with his cancer diagnosis back in August 2021, revealing to his followers via the video of him playing the game that he sought medical help after feeling pain in his arm which he initially believed was an injury caused by repetitive stress from gaming.
Technoblade's father claimed that Technoblade sent his final message eight hours prior to his death. Holding back tears, Technoblade's father described his son as "the most wonderful kid" anyone could ever ask for, adding: "I miss Technoblade."
Technoblade's father shared the sad news with the viewers of his channel.
The video was watched more than 19 million times, ended with a statement from Technoblade's family that read: "This past year had a lot of rough spots for our son, who was fighting cancer of the stage four. He didn't complain and continued to use his mind's logical approach to beat what he believed was almost impossible odds. My son's bravery on this journey was a shining lesson to all of us who were fortunate enough to walk it with him. Thank you for sharing the journey he took as he completed the work he loved to do for his beloved fans."
Social media has been flooded with tributes from celebrities, fans and fellow gamers.
YouTuber Ted Nivison remembered him as: "Effortlessly funny. Amazingly talented. Too soon. Rest at ease, Technoblade."
TommyInnit TommyInnit, another YouTube star, wrote on Twitter: "Technoblade, a legend. I can't express how thankful I am to have been a huge fan and a close friend of his. I'm sure he's mulling in heaven on how to beat God."
Sarcoma Foundation of America sent an official statement to CNN, paying tribute to Technoblade and offering its condolences to his family.
Brandi Felser is the CEO of the charity. This allowed SFA to grant Technoblade research grants. These efforts have left a legacy that will be passed on to future generations.
Felser declared that Technoblade will be recognized with the organization's Courage Award, which is an annual award to those who motivate others to "create hope and a better lifestyle for the sarcoma patient population" later in the year.
