To draw attention to the dire state of mangroves and the urgently important benefits they provide, Minecraft created Rooted Together Interactive Map where players can explore the mangrove-based ecosystem in-game.
The game allows players to plant mangroves, monitor CO2 levels, and observe new wildlife. It is an interactive demonstration of how trends in climate as well as biodiversity and climate change affect the mangrove ecosystem's health. The more mangroves that players plant, the less dangerous climate change is and the more animals are able to return to their habitats.
Supporting Conservation at TNC
In addition to the in-game interaction with mangrove ecosystems, Mojang Studios will be contributing $200,000 to TNC to support our mission. In July, Minecraft creators hosted their own charity streams, reaching more than 350,000 live viewers and 33,500 viewers via video-on-demand. The creators played Minecraft live, and also educated viewers on the importance mangroves worldwide. They also discussed some of TNC’s efforts to restore and protect this vital ecosystem.
