If you keep an watch on the App Store (or have a quick RSS feed following it) you may have noticed an app called Minecrafted up there on Monday morning. It's an Minecraft client for iOS which is a version of the wildly popular indie game that is able to played on an iPhone and also connect to real Minecraft servers. Do not rush to download it. The application has been removed from the App Store and you'll get an error message if you try to locate it on the US store.
What's the issue? TUAW contacted the creator of the app, Trevor Wilkin, and Wilkin explained to us that his initial idea was to develop the client, submit it to Apple and then receive official approval from the creators of Minecraft before putting it live. Apple took it down right away, however it was a complete disaster, and Wilkin claims that he "pretty much freaked out and removed from sale as fast as I could." He's not sure if the application is genuine since it's completely original code, according to the description. It's possible that the developer reverse engineered certain elements because it's compatible with current servers or versions of the game.
Wilkin sounds innocent enough to us. Wilkin claims he doesn't wish to harm the brand, but he just wanted to offer an efficient tool. Minecraft I hope to find an official solution that doesn’t put anyone at risk. We're hoping so too.A re-launch of Minecraft officially running on iOS would be a huge benefit for both iPhone owners as well as those who love the hugely popular game.
