To bring awareness to the devastation of mangroves and the urgently significant benefits they offer, Minecraft created Rooted Together Interactive Map where players can explore a mangrove-based ecosystem in-game.
Mangroves can be planted by players. They can also assess CO2 levels, and observe new species of wildlife in the game, resulting in an interactive display of how climate trends and biodiversity are influenced by the health of the mangrove habitat. The more mangroves that players plant, the less likely climate change will occur, and the more animals that are able to return to their habitats.
TNC Conservation Support
Mojang Studios will contribute $200,000 to TNC to support our mission in addition to the game-based interaction with mangrove ecosystems. Additionally, Minecraft creators hosted individual streams for charity in July reaching 33,500 live viewers and more than 350,000 views on video on demand. The creators played Minecraft live and also educated viewers on the importance of mangroves across the globe. They also shared some of the efforts TNC has made to save and restore this important ecosystem.
