Here's a message from Zaire asking whether Blizzard will ever bring World of Warcraft into South Africa. It's true. While we've taken for granted that the game is available in North America and Europe (and numerous other regions of the world), it's not. It seems that there's an industry in a region like South Africa -- Blizzard states that they have between five to seven thousand players down there (we'd suppose they're playing on EU or US servers), and that does not include any players who play who play on private servers, which could be as high as 20,000.
iGame is part of an ISP called iBurst located in the region and they're prepared to run an official server (within 24 hours' notice!) in the event that Blizzard approves, but Blizzard has told them that they must have at minimum 40,000 players in the region to be worthwhile to run an official server.
Another alternative is the "peering" server. It connects to Blizzard's servers, but makes use of local connections and networks to accelerate the process. But again, Blizzard needs to assent to this and it appears that they're still unsure.
Wow and private wow servers
Oceanic realms have been experiencing problems for a long time however, at least the players there do have a chunk of servers dedicated to these realms. Is there another major place in the world without official WoW support? South America? India?
