Markus "Notch" Persson is most well-known as the creator behind Minecraft, but he's quickly developing a reputation for eccentric games that encompass everything from speed typing to existential drama. Be Yourself; Everyone Else Is Already Taken Cliffhorse, his latest title is proof enough. Yes, it's just as absurd as the title implies -- you play an animal that hurls a massive ball around the cliffs, but there's no anything more than that. The key isn't the minimal design, which took two hours to develop. Persson explained the Windows-only game to be a slam against developers who misuse early access programs. He charges money for "minimum work" releases, which are theoretically the most valuable. He is aware of the irony given that he paid for Minecraft long before it was finished.
If the absurdity of the project were not evident, Notch will only accept voluntary Dogecoin donations as payment. Cliffhorse can be downloaded completely free of charge, should you want. It's just as well that there's no real profit model, as there's also "no assurance of updates in the future." Persson's parody may not be enough to inspire you to give him virtual money. However, the launch could be beneficial if it convinces some developers to put in some effort before asking gamers to pay up.
