Augmented reality mobile game Minecraft Earth is shutting down in June, developer Mojang Studios announced this morning.

"Minecraft Earth was designed around freedom of movement and cooperative play-two things that have become near impossible in the current world situation," the official announcement reads. "We have taken the difficult decision to shift resources to other areas of value to the Minecraft community, and that Minecraft Earth support will end in June 2021."
As a game based around exploring the world, it appears Minecraft Earth didn't fare well in the current covid-19 pandemic, which has kept potential players from going out in public. The game won't be relaxing into the night. Today's update will eliminate real-money transactions. This will allow you to play the game and keep you safe in your home. Anyone who signs up for Minecraft Earth between now & June 30 will receive a collection of items designed by the character creator.
After June 30, Minecraft players will not be able to download or play Minecraft Earth. Mojang has pledged to provide everyone who made real-money purchases with a free copy of Minecraft as a way of saying thanks.
