Microsoft announced that it has sold 176 million copies of Minecraft which is a huge hop over the 156 million number they announced just seven months ago. Despite more buzz around games like Fortnite, Microsoft has kept the game current with features like the Dungeons online co-op, a browser-free version, a movie coming soon and now an augmented reality version called Minecraft Earth. Microsoft also announced that it has surpassed 200 million registered users of Microsoft China edition and that 130 million Minecraft "Hour of Code” sessions have been completed.

When it begins ramping up the beta program for Earth the figures could really explode. The game's design looks promising, with more immersive play than the current mobile AR game, Pokemon Go, which was a huge hit when it was launched in 2016. Microsoft plans to roll out Minecraft Earth across the globe slowly, beginning with an open beta this summer.
