James Whitfield Thomson is a writer from Massachusetts who began his career as a sales executive. He was a U.S. Navy navigator in Vietnam and was an early member of Andre Dubus's writers' workshop. He currently resides in Natick, Massachusetts. His first novel, The Ledge, was published in the fall of 2013. It was one of the most popular books of 2013 in the Boston area.
While growing up in Pittsburgh, Jim spent his time reading and writing. He attended Harvard College on a scholarship and served in the Navy. While studying for his Ph.D., he completed a master's degree in American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his Ph.D., he worked in a start-up company and taught at the University of Miami. He now lives in a Victorian farmhouse west of Boston. James Whitfield Thomson has received several awards, including a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

A former salesman, Jim is now a published author. He grew up in a rented Victorian farmhouse outside of Boston. He has five children, including three daughters. His stories have been published in literary journals, and he has won a Massachusetts Council for the Arts.
