Minecraft players should be on the lookout for Walter "softy" and his stinky pants.



Walter, Dennis the Menace and his dog Gnasher, from The Beano, can now be added to PC versions of the game.



Players can create an entire sausage for Gnasher and use all of Dennis his most effective pranks such as catapults and stink bombs.



It's part of the Beano's bigger plans to expand into digital. The mod was developed as a collaboration between the cartoonist and Frima Studios, which is a Canadian multiplatform game creator.

Mark states that the game is an extension of the comic and a way of making The Beano "a more holistic experience" for children.



He claims that 32,000 comics are sold each week during the Beano which is a healthy number.



But it's far fewer than the two million sold during the peak of the magazines.



Mark says, "We are very conscious that our kids today are passionate about digital."



"We must transform The Beano into a 360 brand where Dennis and Gnasher is everywhere that children are, instead of expecting them to come to us.



"So we're working on an entire series of articles on the coming three to six months."



There are puzzle games, interactive comics, and an "action 3-D game for kids".



DC Thompson, The Beano's publisher has already expanded The Beano brand to include a TV show and a photo-sharing application and a YouTube channel.

The comic has been around since 1938 and has plenty of adult fans. The Beano characters might also make an appearance in adult games, such as Dennis the Menace in Grand Theft Auto.



"No. That's not something we'd focus on right now," says Mark.



"We are focused on the 7-11-year-old digital product. Today, digital is all about engaging with children and understanding their interests.



In order to accomplish this, they've consulted the group of 10 seven to 11-year-old Beano and Minecraft fans throughout the development process.



Minnie the Minx?



"We basically asked kids, 'If you put Beano into Minecraft, what do you think?'



"This was the first step in imagining what they desired. Their imaginations are able to go far beyond what we are able to do right now.



"But they were looking for pranks. They wanted Walter, Gnasher and Dennis. That's what they got.



"We'll keep talking to them. Our goal is to expand this and build Beanotown and let kids be creative.



"Minecraft is so beloved because it gives power to kids. If we tried to control the kids and tell them what to do, they'd probably reject it."



Are there any other characters who might be allowed to see in?



"We definitely want to expand it," says Mark.



"The obvious character and the one that the kids have been wanting is Minnie the Minx so we'll probably consider next."
