How to Create a Banner In Minecraft

In Minecraft, a banner is a tall block specifically made to display a pattern or design which is the ideal accessory for decorating an inside space. You can find banners naturally appearing in Minecraft, but the results are limited and boring, with only a few complex options beyond simple white flower banners found in Woodland Mansions, or villager face banners in pillager outposts.

Step 1: Design or find a banner Step 2: Bleach the banner, if needed.

Step 3 Step 3: Add dyes to the banner

Step 4: Place your banner

Step 5: Arrange multiple banners if necessary

It's possible to make your own banner with the right dyes and the right positions. This is how!

Step 1: Design or find a banner

First, you need to get the banner! You can usually loot the banner by attacking it or a villager who is holding one, then inspecting the items that drop. You can also create your own banner using six sections of wool that match colors, and a stick.

Step 2: If required you need to bleach the banner

While you don't have to bleach a banner prior to starting, it is an option. This provides you with a blank slate from which to add dyes and eliminates any patterns that have been present on the banner. You will require bleach. This can only be done using a laboratory table (available in the Education Edition or directly commands) in which you mix three water and three sodium chlorite. Then, you can design the banner with the bleach you have created to wipe it clean.

We suggest beginning with white wool when crafting, as it will give you the best results.

Step 3 Add dyes to your banner.

If you do not have any dyes, now is the time to start collecting or purchasing them. There are a total of 16 dyes you can choose from to create the color you want to use and begin working. You can make use of bonemeal, ink sacs, and flowers to create different dyes.

If you've got enough dye to complete your project, it's time to craft it as well. The most important thing is the proper placement: Where you put your banner as well as your dyes in the 3x3 crafting grid will determine the pattern you see on your banner.

The placements are easy to spot, especially if your goal is to create an image that is crest-inspired. A single dye will create a square in that area by placing it in the corner of the grid. A large dot can be created when you put a dye in the middle. A border of the same color could be created by enclosing the banner with dyes. A gradient can be created by placing dyes in the upper left and right corners and in the middle of the grid. Crosses and X's are also made by positioning dyes in the correct patterns. A triangle of dyes can create chevrons at the top and bottom of the banner or diagonally divide the banner with color depending on placement - and so on.

Special designs

You can also create unique banner designs by adding in other items in addition to a dye color for more complex results. The options are:

Brick: Bricks can be used to create a brick pattern. Combine a single dye and bricks to create a color brick pattern. Vine: Creating an edging vine, a dye, and a banner will result in a wavy border in the color of your preference. Creeper head This creates an appearance of a Creeper on your banner, in the color you prefer. Skeleton skull with Wither Make use of this to create an image of a skull and crossbones. Oxeye daisy: This gives a vague flower shape. This is the way you get the Mojang logo.

Craft dyes can be used on banners several times. This lets you mix and overlay designs to get exactly the appearance you desire. If you'd like to try it first so you don't waste materials, Minecraft has a tool for that very thing. There's plenty of great ideas and tips for more complicated plans, from real-world flags to House crests from Game of Thrones.

If you have access to an loom, you can create even more banner patterns with a wider range of logos, however this is not necessary to achieve the look you would like.

Step 4: Place your banner

After you've dyed your fabric and have the design created and crafted, you can place your banner at the location you want it to be. Banners do not have collision mechanics and can be placed on the ground (like a sign) or on a wall. They aren't damaged by lava and objects can move through them if they have to, including running water.

Step 5: Arrange multiple banners if necessary

Sometimes, a single banner won't be enough to create the style you're looking for. This is especially true when you have to write something out or design large billboards. In this case, you'll need to create and then place multiple banners in the same spot, using their color patterns to form a larger design.

If you'd like to make a banner with the same colors, simply create a blank banner, and then your dyed banner into the grid of crafting. This allows you to copy the design without needing to gather all the materials again.
