Minecraft-makers Cancel Film Inspired By Game

Minecraft-makers cancel film inspired by game

Mojang, the Minecraft-maker has intervened to stop the making of a film within the game's block-built world.

Birth of a Man's creators launched an Kickstarter appeal for $600,000. (PS366,000) to help to finance production.

But barely a day after the project had been launched, it was cancelled without explanation by the creator.

Mojang founder Markuss Persson later posted a message on Twitter to explain the reasons why it was shut down.

"We don't allow [half-a-million-dollar Kickstarter projects] based on our [intellectual property] without any deals in place," wrote Mr Persson, also known as Notch, in a tweet.

According to some, the message is referring to the fact that Mojang and the filmmakers did not agree to use the same blocks items, items, and other elements used in the game. Crafting The film was set to be released on YouTube later in 2014.

A teaser video on the Kickstarter project page showed concept footage mixing live action with scenes, creatures and weapons that are seen in the game.

In the short film, director Brandon Laatsch said he had been working on the idea for the Minecraft film for more than a year.

He said that he and other gamers who participated in the project hoped that the final film would be better than those based on popular video games.

In the teaser clip, he said that Minecraft was the ideal video game to adapt to a movie.

"The reason is that it doesn't have a protagonist It does not have a story I find this to be an enormous advantage since we can create our own unique story."

Mr Laatsch has not yet made a statement on the reasons for the project's cancellation , or whether it will be revived when Mojang has reached an agreement to license its intellectual property.
