Mojang Reassures Minecraft Fans about Microsoft Deal

Mojang reassures Minecraft fans about Microsoft deal

The boss of Minecraft-maker Mojang has reassured fans worried about what might occur when Microsoft übernimms the company.

In the middle of September, Microsoft announced a $2.5bn (PS1.5bn), deal to purchase Mojang.

But Vu Bui, chief operating officer of Mojang said that there were no plans in the offing to change the game or what people can do with it.

The feedback from players will be crucial to develop the game, he added.

"Nothing's likely to change," stated Mr Bui. "We don't have any plans to change our ways and obviously, I'm not able to talk about the issue and I don't know everything, but we're here, and the game is still going on and everything is the same as it was before."

Open view

Mojang said that he had always been trying to keep alive the enthusiasm that made the game popular.

"Maintaining the authentic culture is a real challenge," he said. "It's a culture which respects the community and allows the community to do what they want with the game and make it theirs.

"It is definitely the intention, as it has always been, to continue with this," he said to the BBC during a BBC interview at London's Olympia exhibition center in which he was delivering an address as the keynote speaker at the Brand Licensing Europe trade fair.

Mr Bui acknowledged that the deal was "still in the process of being finalized" but said Mojang's intention was to keep working closely with its large community of players.

Many of the fans of the game of building blocks have expressed concerns about what will take place when Microsoft is in complete control.

Markus Persson (aka Notch) is the Minecraft creator. He wrote about the reasons he was approaching Microsoft. He wrote that it was too difficult for him to handle and that it was becoming an burden.

He wrote, "I can't take responsibility for something like this," shortly after details of the deal were revealed.

"It's not about money," he added. "It's about my mental health."

Bui said there would be changes in the future. However, these would still be based on the input, comments, and feedback from fans.

The current system where Minecraft developers share their work long before adding it to the game will be kept.

He added, "We don't keep our secrets about our features."

This openness would also operate as Mojang started to show off the new titles developers were working on even though the studio was not yet ready to talk specifics the details, he said.

When they were ready, said Mr. Bui, Mojang would let players play the first versions of a game and help the title's creators improve it and make it a commercial property.

Similar methods were employed for Minecraft. Mojang wanted the same process to be repeated because it was proven to benefit developers as they worked on their project.

It wasn't about trying to replicate what happened with Minecraft to create a sequel that proved just as popular. Bui said it was more about faith in the overall approach.

He said, "We believe that model." "Regardless of their artistic style, people should be able to put their energies into whatever they believe in, no matter what the outcome.

He said, "That's a noble endeavor."

Mojang also declared that it was a mistake to try and control the Minecraft community or dictate what can be done with it.

The best option, he said was to simply get out of the way.

"People are at their most creative when you let them be creative and do whatever they want," said Mr Bui. While you need to give them some guidelines and guidelines, they are more likely to come with better ideas than you could.
