Minecraft 1.4, AKA the Pretty Scary Update, arrives on the 24th of October. Until then the 1.4 pre-release is now available for download on Mojang's site. Remember, this isn't the public update, so if you'd rather avoid the risk of installing-at-your-own-risk then you only have to wait five more days.
The Pretty Scary Update includes a number of additions and changes. Just another wordpress site This includes a Witch creature, a Wither Boss, Witch creature and direct access to server mods. Anvils can be used for repairing and combing items. The Minecraft Wiki offers an extensive listing of what's popped up in prior snapshots, and thus provides an extensive overview of what players can expect from 1.4.
