Caves & Cliffs: Part II is currently in development at Mojang as the next major Minecraft update and you are able to test the latest world generation version.
It's a significant change to the way the world is built in Minecraft so Mojang decided to approach things a bit differently this time. This Snapshot is not available in the launcher, as opposed to normal testing. Instead, you can go to their explainer blog to find instructions and an option to download the Snapshot.
Although it's all subject changes, here's what's different:
New world height and depth - New mountain biomes (lofty peaks or snowcapped peaks, meadow, and snowy slopes) Cave generation new (cheese or spaghetti caves, as well as noodles caves) Local levels of water and lava in the underground caves - New cave biomes produce naturally underground and within mountains (lush caves and dripstone caves) - Natural variation in terrain shape and elevation, independently from biomes. For example, forests and deserts could develop on a hill without the need for an extra biome for that.
