How can you get hold of Minecraft capes You might think? You may have heard rumours of the mythical piece of cloth that is worn on the shoulders of the top Minecraft players. The legends speak of myriad Minecraft capes given to the lucky few over the years. The latest news (sigh) is that capes alter the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in end ships, since they take up the same space on the player's back. Naturally, Minecraft capes are extremely sought-after, but they haven't been easy to obtain.

Participants who attended any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017 each received Minecraft capes. Each year, a different colour and design. Even rarer still are the personal capes gifted to lucky people to honor their achievements, like Reddit user u/billyk_ who was given a personal turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should add turtles to Minecraft.

Unless you can think of a concept that is as good as turtles (unlikely) or can time travel back to the past of Minecon, it looks like you're not going to obtain any of these Minecraft capes in the Java version. They are more common in the Bedrock version because there are numerous skin packs available on the Marketplace. If you want them for free, you can try to make a cape with the help of Minecraft mods, but it'll only be visible to you. There's a currently available Minecraft cape for the Java version, however, so read on to learn how to get it.

Get a Minecraft cape by transferring your account to Minecraft.

In a blog post in 2020, Mojang announced that it is moving all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. Pirateportal This is a required change, so if you don't switch your account to Microsoft when the time is right and you don't get it, you'll be able to play Minecraft unless you utilize the launcher.

On the plus side, though when you log into Minecraft using your Microsoft account, you'll gain access to an amazing new cape and maybe more than that, as Mojang hints at players receiving more than one outfit to show off'. New Minecraft accounts are automatically set up with Microsoft instead of Mojang.

You can find out more on how to do it by reading this blog post from Mojang.

How do I activate Minecraft capes

If you own an official Minecraft cape, you can equip them prior to starting a game. The capes you have Bedrock caps are only available in the version you have chosen. This is also true for any capes that you can earn in Minecraft Java version.

For the Bedrock version, open the app and click the button to open the Dressing Room from the main menu. Then, click the tab to the left with a red cape and Mojang's logo. This will show all the available capes. Select one to equip.

To play the Java version, you need to open the Launcher and select Minecraft: Java Edition on the left-hand side of the screen. This brings up some options at the top which include Skins. To see all your skins, select this link. From here, you can either create your own skin or edit an existing one. Under the option to choose a Skin File, you will be able to view all of your available caps.

Get a cape with Minecraft mods

What if your avatar needs an outfit and you don't want to shell out for the cape that is free to migrate? You can create your own cape by using mods. Mods such as the Advanced Capes Mod make it possible to obtain the most sought-after capes available in the game, or any cape that you can imagine.

There's a caveat that other players who you meet on multiplayer Minecraft servers won't be able to see your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. The only way to get capes that are visible to everyone is to wait for official capes to be given to you from Mojang as it transfers your account.

That's all you should know about getting yourself an awesome Minecraft cape If you're looking to complete your ensemble Here are the top Minecraft skins we've found or you can kit yourself out in a complete costume of Minecraft Netherite armor. Read our Minecraft The Wild guide for all the details on the most recent 1.19 update.
