Seven Spectacular Minecraft Creations

Seven stunning Minecraft creations By Joe Miller Technology reporter

Many of us were first introduced to Minecraft when Microsoft announced it was paying $2.5bn (PS1.5bn) for the company that developed the top-selling video game.

For several years a dedicated community has been working in the Minecraft universe, meticulously crafting intricate cyberspace marvels.

Here are seven of the best:

Game of Thrones

Mapmakers WesterosCraft are on a quest to recreate the universe created by George RR Martin in the Game of Thrones books and the TV series. The goal is to provide an opportunity for roleplaying in the fantasy world.

A working 16-bit computer

A Minecraft gamer with the username ohmganesha built a functioning 16-bit computer in just two weeks. The virtual machine comes with 32 bytes of RAM (random-access memory) and an ROM of 256 bytes (read-only memory).

This Cathedral

Patrix, the edifice's architect, said it took him just two nights to build. He said that he had never been inside the cathedral in person.

A hard drive that works

Cody Littley's hard drive is able to hold a single kilobyte of information, which could seem unimpressive when compared with everyday discs, until you consider that Mr Littley is a computer science PhD student in Texas - built it piece-by-piece.

An entire city

The artists behind the Aurora City Project admit it could never be completed and the details of their cityscapes offer an clues as to why. Minecraft-server.Live You can view a variety of screenshots here.

All of Denmark

To aid children in learning, the Danish government set out to map the entire country using Minecraft. The project was later targeted by vandals, and portions of the landscape were blown up by virtual "dynamite".

A playable guitar

Disco the creator of Minecraft, can play 10 basic open chords on his cyber guitar. A demonstration can be seen here.
