Another fascinating island is Hoy the second largest island in Orkney. Hoy rises from sea to 1500ft high and is home to a mountainous moorland. The red sandstone cliffs on Hoy, also known as St John's Head plunge into the ocean. Hoy is accessible by taking a passenger ferry to Stromness.
