The second method involves placing an object in the field of an inductor. The electromagnetic field generates electrical currents in the object, and this causes heat to rise in the object. How much heat is that is generated depends in the degree of resistance that the object has against the flow of the currents and the length of the exposure.

Although the biological effects of RF EMF aren't conclusive, studies have shown an association between exposure to EMF from RF sources as well as EHS symptoms. This connection requires further research to understand if EMF exposure causes EHS. For example, it has been shown that leukemia in children is linked with the proximity of homes to electric lines.

Consequently, high levels of exposure may cause long-term health problems.

The evidence that suggests how exposure to RF EMF could cause EHS is not extensive. However, there are many studies that demonstrate this connection to RF EMF and oxidative stress. Although it's still not clear how long EMF exposure may cause cellular damage, it's important to understand what is happening within the body to prevent this type of problem. It can affect organ function.

The heating effect of RF EMF is explained by the polarity of the compounds. When the RF energy passes through a polar substance that has atomic nuclei, electrons within the nuclei get displaced from their equilibrium position. As a result, electrons in the nuclei are dipoles that are induced. This dipole realignment occurs thousands of times per second. During this process there is friction between the rotating molecules and heat is generated throughout the entire volume of the material.

While RF radiation isn't thought to directly damage DNA, it may create heat in body tissue that could cause burning or damage to tissue. In contrast to ionizing radiation RF radiation is not believed to cause cancer. However, some studies show higher rates of tumors in lab animal models exposed to RF radiation.

There are numerous federal agencies involved in regulating and monitoring the effects of RF radiation on human bodies. They include The Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, and the OSHA. They monitor exposure to RF to ensure that it is safe for workers. They also urge employees to minimize their exposure when working in high-frequency RF environments.
