Sony Ericsson will Showcase over 20 new Games that are Optimized For Xperia Play

In our Xperia Play review, we were dissatisfied with the inability of find games that are specifically designed for the handheld's buttons. It's fair to mention that there are a number of new titles coming out including some classics and others new, all designed for this particular brand of button-mashing. Headline games include Minecraft (a port we've already seen in action) as well as Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard and Battlefield Bad Company 2, both of which have been accruing headshots on iOS devices for some time now. Hit the PR after the break for the complete list of titles, but don't expect much in the way of pricing or availability. The details will be announced at E3 next week, when the Xperia Play will compete for attention alongside the Sony NGP. We'll have to wait until the right moment to twiddle with vigor.

London 2nd June 2011 – Sony Ericsson has teamed up with Gameloft again to provide an exclusive experience exclusively for its most popular gaming phone Xperia(tm), PLAY. This exclusive experience gives access to Tom Clancy's full-on spy thriller Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Shadow Vanguard, developed by Ubisoft. Utilizing the smartphone's outstanding graphical capabilities and game-changing control pad, Xperia(tm) PLAY delivers the high-octane global action game to the Android operating system for the first time. The Android version of the game, which is scheduled to be released on the 3rd June, will be available only to Xperia(tm) PLAY customers in Western Europe throughout June and July.



Based on the renowned Ubisoft video game franchise, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is one of the most well-known video game brands. It's a highly-charged tactical first-person shooter that is based on a fictional international counter-terrorist group named "Rainbow." The game is focused more on tactics and stealth, rather than the power of fire. Weapons (including assault rifles, high-caliber handguns and uniforms) are selected to suit each operative's abilities and mission.

During June and July 2011 consumers across Western Europe who have an Xperia(tm) Play will be able to download a free copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard. During this time the game will be available for Android only on the Sony Ericsson Xperia(tm) PLAY.



In addition, Sony Ericsson also announces 20 new games, including 10 exclusive titles, optimized for Xperia(tm) PLAY. best-minecraft-servers The new games, many of which will be featured at the world's leading games expo, E3, June 7-9.



The new titles provide wide appeal to all users and different usage scenarios from the most popular, innovative, massively multi-player online titles (MMO) to immersive titles and addictive graphically rich new casual content.



The most notable of the titles that were that were announced today is Minecraft(tm) the highly anticipated game from the Swedish indie developer Mojang. Minecraft(tm) is one of the fastest growing game franchises in the history of gaming with over 8 million registered users announced to date and over 50,000 new players joining every day.



Sony Ericsson can confirm that new games from the Sony Computer Entertainment's collection of classic PlayStation 1 titles will be coming to Xperia(tm) PLAY in the near future.



Sony Ericsson's involvement in the Android ecosystem also includes partnerships with key industry players, such as Unity and Havok, with whom it is working to create an ever growing ecosystem. Sony Ericsson will launch a program known as "Stand Out from the crowd" to support and find innovative game developers. This program lets game developers be part of the Xperia (tm) PLAY story and give their games the exposure they require.
