Technoblade, Popular Minecraft Creator Died of Cancer at 23

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Technoblade one of the top YouTube creator who specialized in Minecraft let's-play videos, has died one year after he was diagnosed with an illness that was cancerous in an announcement from his family. He was 23.



In a touching YouTube video posted on Technoblade's channel on Thursday, the YouTuber's father announced that his son had died. "He was the most wonderful kid you could ever want," his father said. "I really miss Technoblade."



The video uploaded Thursday and titled "so long nerds" included a posthumous note from Technoblade's creator to his fans and was read by his father. "Hello everyone, Technoblade here. If you're reading this I'm dead," Technoblade's message said, revealing that his real name is Alex. "Thank you all for supporting my work over the years. If I had another 100 lives I'm pretty sure I'd prefer to be Technoblade over and over again since those were the most enjoyable years of my life."



On Technoblade's website there is a message that reads "In honor of his memory, a portion of the proceeds from all online orders will be donated to an amazing organization called curesarcoma.org," linking to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.



Technoblade, whose online avatar was a crowned King Pig, currently has 10.8 million users on his YouTube channel. "I play too many video games. His YouTube bio says that he may not be the best but that he has hot elbows.



The video was posted on Thursday, with the following statement: "We, the Technoblade family, wanted you all know how much he cared and valued his followers. From the very beginning of Technoblade's online existence the founder was always thinking of ways to please and reward his audience. He managed to keep his good-natured humility despite his success, and compete with a charming balance between his confidence level and his self-deprecating wit. We ask that you respect his desire to keep his identity secret and to keep him from becoming famous.



The statement continued, "This year has been difficult for our son , as we battled stage four cancer." But he never complained and continued to use his famous strategic mind to overcome what he knew were almost impossible odds. My son's determination on this path was an inspiration to all of us who were fortunate enough to share it with. Thank you for sharing his journey, as he did the work he enjoyed for his beloved fans."



According to his father, Technoblade composed his final message to fans about eight hours before he died. "I doubt Technoblade said everything he wanted to say however I believe he got the main points," his father said.



Technoblade announced his diagnosis of cancer in August 2021. He claimed that he had felt pain in his right shoulder since the beginning of August. After some time after that, he noticed his shoulder was swelling and thought that he might have a fractured bone. He was then diagnosed with cancer.
