When the mobile-based Minecraft Earth was announced last year, it immediately attracted comparisons to Pokemon Go because of its use of Augmented Reality and location-based games. But it was very different (as senior editor Jess Conditt will attest), since it didn't require players to leave your home to play the mining and building game. Now, Mattel has added another play dimension to Minecraft Earth that Pokemon Go can't really boast of: NFC-enabled figurines.

The Boost Mini figures are priced at $5 each and include several of characters from Minecraft which include Steve, Alex and creepers, ducks, cows, and ducks. Each figurine is very cute by itself, but when you place it in front of an NFC-capable device can unlock specific abilities within Minecraft Earth for a certain duration of time, as indicated by an indicator on the screen. A1host You'll also get XP for signing up the mini in the game, which is an additional incentive to collect all of them (or take them away from friends).
The first batch that will be released this spring has 20 minis with 10 different abilities to choose from. If you're someone who plans to take your Minecraft Earth game out and out, Mattel is also selling a potion-shaped carrying case that can be clipped to your belt.
Mattel has announced new $3.50 blind-box minis that are themed to the original Minecraft. They also have larger figures of 3.5 inches that connect with the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons. The Redstone Monstrosity is a lot of enjoyable because it's scaled in proportion to those toys, and is over six inches tall. The 3.5-inch figurines will cost $10, with the monstrosity going for $25 when it's launched in the fall.
