Popular blocky sandbox game Minecraft is closing in on 54 million copies sold across all platforms, says Mojang's Patrick Geuder, who also announced on Twitter that the console (Xbox 360 and PS3) versions of the game have outsold sales of PC and Mac versions. The game will be available on Xbox One, PS4 or Vita in August. The Vita version of the game is Cross-Buy compatible and is free for users who own the PS3 version. Xbox 360 and PS4 owners who have the game on their Xbox 360 or PS3 will now be able to download the latest-gen versions for $5.

Players' first moments with Minecraft were in May 2009 when the alpha version was made available, over two years before its full release in November. Mojang and Markus "Notch", Persson who is the Minecraft creator have reached numerous milestones in sales. Recently, Mojang reported that 15 million copies had been sold of the PC version. In the same month the Xbox 360 version reached 12 million sold, while the Pocket Edition for iOS and Android achieved the 21 million milestone. [Image: Mojang]
