Minetest, the Minecraft-like voxel game engine (and a basic game that is included) comes with a new version out with Minetest 5.4.0 and is worth a second go.
As we've mentioned during the Release Candidate stage of the release, this version makes it easier to modify small mod packs, as well as complete games. Minetest was a game that allowed players to browse and download mods directly from the game. However, it now also downloads all dependencies mods need which makes it much easier to find what you need and then load it into a game. There's no need to download one mod and then having to find all the individual bits it requires.
The built-in game "Minetest Game" was also given a few enhancements. Although it's a basic game but it is a great tool to showcase the engine as well as to add mods. Minetest 5.4.0 now comes with crafting guides, five more wood variations, environmental sounds for active furnaces and lava as well as multiple bugs fixed and translations. It continues to grow slowly and steadily to become a lot more from the box.
Other options include the ability to change the cross-hair when you are pointing at objects, the ability to freely bind mouse buttons and name tags for players are now semi-transparent backgrounds, a caverns option to create flat maps and the 'place’ and 'fig keys can be freely set. There are a variety of bugs fixed, including the inability for players not to access the inventories of others.

It's wonderful to witness this open-source game engine and game thriving. According to the official server list, Minetest is used by many players, with hundreds of them online at the time this article goes live.
