Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem inaugurates Israel's first cycling tunnel

The Kerem Tunnel is a great spot to hike and ride.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban and its northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a kilometer from the Kerem junction.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin and Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and hundreds of cyclists attended a ceremony to officially open the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once very sought-after tourist destination due to its rich history. Elkin stated that the current tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem's historic treasures and incorporates modern day tourism. "The inauguration[of] the tunnel project is a different aspect of the growth of Jerusalem as well as it's transformation into an attractive tourist destination for everyone across Israel and the world.

Elkin the minister whose ministry as well as the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, stated that the Jerusalem Municipality's ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels annually in the development all aspects Jerusalem's visitors and in the development and operation of innovative attractions, ventures and attractions that link the rich history of our eternal city to the future". I encourage all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the modern, well-maintained route that takes in the view of Old Jerusalem.

נווה פריצקי The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was completed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said, "The Kerem Tunnel project is a key instrument in achieving our goal to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem." The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. The plant is located west of Sorek and is used today as an infrastructure tunnel.

In order to make the tunnel accessible to the general public throughout the year The works comprise road construction and installation of blowers.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the and the historical natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
