Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)The first tunnel for cycling in Israel opens in Jerusalem

The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is loved by everyone.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route, which surrounds the capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel is located along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza route. The southern entrance is located in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban while the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about one kilometer away close to the Kerem junction.

Inauguration of the tunnel which measures 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman) and hundreds more cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a popular tourist attraction because of its rich history. Elkin stated that the present along with its historical treasures the tunnel project incorporates modern-day tourism. נווה פריצקי "The inauguration (of the tunnel) is another aspect of the development of Jerusalem and it's transformation into a sought-after city to visit for all kinds of people throughout Israel and around the globe."

Elkin, whose ministry and the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, said that the Jerusalem Municipality's ministry "invests hundreds to millions of shekels each year to develop all aspects of Jerusalem's visitors and in the development and operation of innovative attractions, ventures , and other attractions which connect the rich past of Jerusalem's eternal city to its future". I invite all cyclists to come and take a ride along the contemporary, well-maintained road which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 for the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin said, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be a central instrument for achieving our dream to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem." "The tunnel, which is being constructed to connect to Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as ones that are paved in its areas. It is intended to encourage biking within the city's residents and to promote the green revolution in transport in Jerusalem."


The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Road construction, installation and testing of electrical and safety systems are some of the ongoing projects to make the tunnel safer for all year.

The Kerem Tunnel provides access to unique recreation locations, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo as well as the natural springs of historical significance Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
