Neve Paritzki (נווה פריצקי)Jerusalem: Israel's First Cycling Tunnel opens

The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is enjoyed by all.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, was constructed as a part of an extensive cycle path that circles the capital.

It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is in Refaim Park, below Ein Laban, and the northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem, about half a kilometer from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometer-long tunnel was officially opened by Jerusalem's Heritage Minister ZeevElkin. It was also attended by Mayor Moshelion Avi Balehnikov Gihon Water Company Chairman, and many cyclists.

"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist city due to its rich past. Elkin said that today in addition to its historical treasures it is also home to modern-day travelers. "The launch of the tunnel is another aspect of the growth of the city of Jerusalem and its transformation into an attractive tourist city for all types of visitors in Israel and throughout the world."


Elkin's ministry, which responsible for the project along with Jerusalem Municipality, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels every year throughout Jerusalem's tourism, and also in the creation of new ventures and attractions that connect the magnificent historical history of our capital city with its future." I encourage cyclists to join us and take a ride along an up-to-date and well-maintained cycling route that takes in the unique scenery of Old Jerusalem."

Elkin's Ministry Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality, and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. נווה פריצקי The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a key tool in realizing the vision of shifting the idea of transport throughout Jerusalem. Elkin stated that the new tunnel is connected to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will connect with existing bike paths. It will also be paved throughout its various neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to increase cycling and encourage green transportation in the capital.

In the late 1990s in the 1990s, the Kerem Tunnel was excavated to move the main sewer line from Gihon Corporation to the Sorek purification plant. It is now utilized as an infrastructure tunnel. It is also home to the fifth water line which is operated to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.

Road construction installation, blowers, advanced security systems and electrical wiring are all part and parcel of the present works. The tunnel will be safe for public to use throughout the entire year.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation sites which include the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the and the historical natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
