Minecraft Goats - how to Tame and Breed

There's been lots of discussion about the 'caves' part of the Minecraft 1.17 update however, not much has been said about the 'cliffs', and their latest Minecraft mob goats. We get it. The best underwater companions for Minecraft axolotls they could change the game. The Minecraft Warden however is an all-new monster that is totally blind, but is a mighty beast. But, won't you think of the Minecraft goats?

Yes, Minecraft has goats. Finally! There are a variety of goats in the real world, from the ibex that can climb steep hills and the incredibly tragic fainting goat. The Minecraft goats are based on the Rocky Mountain goat (or Oreamnos americanus) and are equipped for alpine as well as subalpine conditions. They are not technically goats. They are more like antelopes and square-shaped fakers.

They're still us and behave just like the mountain goats with wool that we are awestruck by. Here is everything you need to be aware of about Minecraft goats.

Where can goats be found in Minecraft

Goats in Minecraft are found on top of high surfaces at a light level of seven or more, such as cliffs. It doesn't appear that it matters if the cliffs have snow or grass on them, but they do seem to move during the daytime.

If you're really lucky you may also come across screaming goats. The only difference between them and regular goats is their bleats, therefore, you'll have to pay attention to them.

What do Minecraft goats do?

As we've mentioned, they're based on the Rocky Mountain goat - an animal disguised as a goat for coolness sake. It's hard to duplicate their unique trait of being able to stand on steep surfaces and climb high.

Instead goats in Minecraft can leap two blocks high rather than the standard one block. They are able to easily fill in small gaps and look impressive when they do. When encountered with an opening in the ground or a snow-covered block, they can jump up to ten blocks into the air.

They have 10 health points (5 full hearts) and can take seven damage (3 and a half heart).

Generally goats seem quite passive, and as CaptainSparklez observed in the 1.17 beta snapshots, they won't attack you if you strike them first. Instead, they'll decide that you're required to be yelled off a ledge, and then ram into you with a hefty force. Even if they are angry, they are more likely to attack your adversaries to defend you. If attacked by a goat, it will flee away from the attacker.

How do I obtain the Goat Horn?

The Minecraft 1.17 update also introduces a new item , called the goat horn. It is possible to collect a maximum of two goat horns when the goat rams into blocks, though they drop only one at a time. In a grouping of goats in one location is the best way to acquire the goat horn. Then, they will fight each other. Their horns should fall off if they charge at the same time a block.

It is normal to make a sound when you use a goat's Horn. It's like you're blowing through the Horn to trigger an alarm. This is the same sound heard during raids against Minecraft villages. What's the source of this sound? Some speculate that the goat's horn might be used in an easter egg. However in the moment now, the horn emits only the sound of raid.

What do Minecraft Goats eat for their food?

Goats were the first animal to be domesticated in the real world, for their udders that eat grass, produce milk and delicious meat. You can use wheat to make them follow you and feeding them with wheat will put them in love mode for breeding. You can also make milk by placing an empty bucket over them. If the goat is in flames then you can cook mutton or raw meat on them. But who would do such a bad thing?

Their ill-tempered nature does make it difficult to ride them as horses in Minecraft, so they're probably the more valuable pet.

Still, there's plenty more to know about what's available in Minecraft thanks to the Caves & Cliffs update and what's to come, and we're not just talking about the new mobs. There is something for everyone in Minecraft, from copper ore to the Lush caves. More details will be available once Minecraft 1.18 is released.
