The Kerem Tunnel allows for a an experience that is unique in terms of hiking and riding.
As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25,000,000 to the project. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin explained that the Kerem Tunnel project is an crucial tool to realize the idea to change the way of thinking and transport in Jerusalem. Elkin stated that the new tunnel connects with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike paths. It will also be paved throughout its different areas. It will also increase cycling and encourage green transportation in the capital.

The Kerem Tunnel was first excavated in the late 1990s to relocate the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation toward the purification plant located in Sorek, which is located just west of the city. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel that includes the fifth water line to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water company.
