The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bike tunnel, opened as part of Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman, and a slew of cyclists attended a ceremony to officially open the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was a desirable tourist destination because of its glorious history. Elkin said that the present tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem's historic treasures and is also a part of modern-day tourism. "The opening of this tunnel project is yet another step in the development of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all kinds of tourists from Israel and around the globe."

Elkin, who heads the project together with Jerusalem Municipality said that his ministry invests hundreds of millions in Jerusalem's tourism development and in the creation innovative activities and ventures that tie the glory historical past of Jerusalem to its future. I invite all cyclists to take a trip and enjoy the contemporary, well-maintained road which overlooks Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry, Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and Gihon Corporation contributed approximately NIS 25 million for the project. נווה פריצקי The project was executed by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin declared that the Kerem Tunnel project was a crucial element in achieving the goal of altering the way of transportation in Jerusalem. "The tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will join the existing cycle paths within the city, and are being constructed in its various areas. It is designed to encourage bicycling among its residents, and to promote an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem."


The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer the main sewer line toward Sorek's purification plant.

Road construction, installation and testing of electrical and safety systems are just some of the ongoing works to make the tunnel safer for all year.
