https://nevefrietzki.co.il/ As part of the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital city, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

It links Nahal Refaim to Emek Motza. The southern entrance is within Refaim Park under Ein Laban. The northern entrance, Nahal Ein Kerem, is approximately half a mile away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel was officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov and hundreds of cyclists.

Jerusalem was a desirable tourist destination due to its rich historical. Elkin stated that nowadays along with its rich history, the tunnel project also incorporates modern-day tourism. "The inauguration [of] this tunnel project is another step in the development of Jerusalem as an ideal tourist destination for all kinds of tourists from Israel and around the globe."

Elkin's ministry, which also in charge of the project together with Jerusalem Municipality, said that the ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year throughout Jerusalem's tourism, and also in the creation of new ventures and attractions that connect the magnificent historical past of our eternal capital with the future." I encourage the cycling community to enjoy a safe and modernized route that will take the cyclist through Old Jerusalem.

Elkin's Ministry Elkin's Ministry Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the work.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is the central instrument for achieving the goal to alter the notion of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin said. "The tunnel is set to connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path. It will connect with the various bicycle paths that are already in the city. The paths will be paved throughout the city's numerous areas. The objective is to promote cycling among residents of Jerusalem.

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Road construction, installation , and testing of safety and electrical systems are just some of the ongoing efforts to make the tunnel safer for all seasons.

The Kerem Tunnel allows for access to exclusive recreation areas such as Ein Kerem, a neighborhood which has a Biblical aquarium and zoo and historic natural springs Ein Haniyeh and Ein Laban.
