The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first bicycle tunnel, was opened as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycling route surrounds Jerusalem.

The tunnel links the paths between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. Its southern entrance is located beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once a major tourist attraction due to its rich past. Elkin said that the present tourist industry is a part of Jerusalem's historic treasures and also incorporates modern tourism. נווה פריצקי "The launch of the tunnel project is another aspect of the development Jerusalem and it's transformation into an attractive tourist destination for everyone in Israel and the world.

Elkin's Ministry, the Tourism Ministry, Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation all contributed to the project. The Jerusalem Development Authority completed the project.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool to realize the idea to transform the idea of transportation throughout Jerusalem," Elkin emphasized. "The new tunnel that connects to Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as the ones that will be paved within its neighborhoods. The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 to move the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.

The Kerem Tunnel provides access to unique recreation locations, including Ein Kerem neighbourhood, the biblical aquarium and zoo , as also the historical natural springs Ein Haniyeh, Ein Laban Ein Laban, and Ein Haniyeh.
