The Kerem Tunnel allows for a the most unique riding and hiking experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first bicycle tunnel in Israel is now open in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle route that circles Jerusalem, the capital city.

The tunnel connects Nahal Refaim with Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entry point can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half one kilometer away from the Kerem junction.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Jerusalem was once very well-known tourist destination due to its rich history. Elkin added that in addition to its historical treasures the modern tourist industry is included in Jerusalem's city. "The launch of the tunnel project is a different aspect of the growth of Jerusalem as well as its transformation into a desirable tourist destination for everyone throughout Israel as well as around the world.

Elkin's ministry, which responsible for the project along in conjunction with Jerusalem Municipality, declared that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year throughout Jerusalem's tourism, and also in the creation of innovative attractions and ventures, which connect the glorious historic past of our eternal capital and the future." I encourage cyclists to visit and enjoy an up-to-date and well-maintained cycling route that takes in the unique scenery of Old Jerusalem."


The project was funded by the Elkin's department as well as the Tourism Ministry. It also included budgets for Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The project was done by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool to realize the idea to alter the notion of transportation in Jerusalem," Elkin stressed. "The new tunnel, which connects with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing cycle routes within the city as well as the ones that are being constructed in its different neighborhood. The Kerem Tunnel first was excavated in the 90s to move the main sewer line of the Gihon Corporation towards Sorek. It is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel which includes the fifth waterline that runs to Jerusalem from the Mekorot water corporation.
