The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has a new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett has been hired to direct and write the long-awaited film. The film was originally planned to be released in May this year. However, the production has been hit with delays due to director change-ups. In the past, Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was set to direct the film but he resigned from the project last August. And he had taken over from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who dropped out in 2014.
Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. He has also been recognized for his work on Five Feet High and Rising. Mojang Minecraft's developer is believed to still be involved in the making of the film.
Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft in 2014 when they acquired the rights to Minecraft. XAJWM'S BLOG The question now is whether Minecraft is still able to draw the same number of viewers as it did a few years back. While it's not known when the film will be released, there is a chance that it can be, with a new director.
