Mojang announced on Tuesday that the Minecraft film adaptation that is based on the popular video game, has been scheduled to be released in theaters on March 4 2022. Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist) now serves as director, replacing It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney. Minecraft (Not gonna pretend, a Minecraft film from McElhenney is a bit wild.) Night at the Museum helmer Shawn Levy was also previously involved in the project, but has since departed.
Minecraft will bring to life "the story of a teenager and her improbable group of adventurers" according to Mojang. "After the evil Ender Dragon is sent on a path to destruction the players must save their beautiful, solid Overworld."
Steve Carell was once in talks to be a part of Minecraft however it's not clear whether he's still in talks. Reps for the actor and Warner Bros.
