Who is Mani Soleimani-Damaneh?
A prominent figure in the Syrian civil war, Soleimani gained fame as a commander of Iraqi forces, which led attacks against IS and other opposition forces. While the U.S.-led coalition focused on airstrikes, Iraqi forces won several ground victories under his leadership. He did so without ever wearing a flak jacket or other protective equipment. According to a former Iraqi militia commander, Soleimani taught him that "death is not the end."
