Lego is taking on Minecraft with a video game

Danish toy company Lego has launched a rival to popular video game Minecraft.
Lego Worlds is now available at PS11.99 through the Steam gaming platform. Tecelana Its final release will be in 2016, with traditional and modern playsets, and popular mini-figures.
Players' feedback will be used to improve features.
Lego already sells Minecraft playsets which allow gamers to create their own virtual creations. And Lego Worlds will invite fans to build the same thing in reverse.
Tom Stone, managing director of TT Games, which will launch Lego Worlds, said it "embodies the physical, Lego brick-building fun that fans have enjoyed for decades but on a platform that offers a completely new type of experience with the beloved bricks".
He said, "From the brick-by–brick editor, to discovering an extensive variety of characters and creatures to populate your worlds, there are endless possibilities for creativity."
Favourite toy
Daniel Goldberg, who wrote a book about the growth of Minecraft, said that he was "surprised" that it took so long.
He claimed that Minecraft was exactly what Lego should've done 10 years ago.
"I'm certain that it will be a huge hit for them."
Markus Persson, the Swedish game designer who invented Minecraft has not hidden his affection for Lego. It appears that the admiration is mutual.
In the past, David Gram, Lego's marketing director, saidthat "Minecraft is a digital Lego. It's a great idea, but we wish we could have invented it.
Mr Goldberg thinks Mr Persson also popularly known as Notch, will be "flattered" by the outcome of the game.
"Lego was his favourite toy as a child , and was the main inspiration behind Minecraft and Minecraft, so it's nice to see things coming full circle," he said.
"I do not believe there will be animosity. Games developers in general tend to be flattered when someone copies a game."
Lego is marketed to children , but also to the avid group of adults.
Microsoft purchased Minecraft last year. It is a huge success for both adults and children.
"The gamers who play Minecraft has proven to be quite large and I'm sure there will be a place for both games," said Mr Goldberg.
