The Third Tab is for Building Materials

Java Edition's crafting table interface.

Crafting is the process of creating tools as well as items and blocks in Minecraft. Players can craft by moving items from their inventory to a grid of crafting and arranging them according to the instructions of a recipe. A 2x2 grid of crafting can be accessed from the player's inventory and the 3x3 grid is access via crafting tables. You can also craft items made in the 2x2 grid in the crafting table.

2x2 Crafting grid (inventory)

3x3 Crafting grid (crafting table)

Creative, Survival Adventure, Creative, and Spectator (Java Edition only) players have always access to the 2x2 crafting grid through their inventory screen. Small crafting recipes that are at most 2x2 are possible to make. This includes crafting tables and sticks, crafting boards, torches and other items that are not shaped. You can create items using a 3x3 grid. To do this, create a crafting board with 4 wooden planks and put it in the world. Then you press the use button while facing it. The interface will be displayed with a 3x3 grid that players can use to create any crafting recipe in the game. You can also get access to all crafting recipes from the recipe book.

Some recipes don't require that the ingredients be put in a particular order on the grid of crafting. They are often referred to as recipes that are not shaped. Players can create the appearance of a fermented spider-eye, by placing its ingredients anywhere on the grid. [note 1]

On the other side, many recipes need to be prepared with ingredients in the correct relative positions on the grid for crafting. These are also known as shaped recipes. Shaped recipes allow ingredients to be'moved upwards or downwards or left, right, or both. They can also be turned side-ways. A 3x1 recipe, such as bread can be created using the top, middle, and bottom rows of the 3x3 grid. It is not possible to create using the 2x2 grid since it requires three items to be covered. Bows can be made by placing the strings on the left side instead.

There are recipes that may not be mirrored or moved in this manner. These are known as fixed recipes. Banner recipes, for instance, require that dyes be placed in a particular way to achieve the desired pattern. *Bedrock Edition only. Fixed recipes can be added via mods or data packs.

Crafting is completely silent, in contrast to other actions in the game like boiling, smelting and enchanting.

Shapeless recipes are marked on this wiki using an intertwined pair of Arrows on the graphic of the crafting table. This symbol does not actually appear in the game. Recipe Book[Recipe Book[

The recipe book is a mechanic in Minecraft that serves as a catalog of recipes and also as a crafting guide. It lists every crafting recipe the player has tried using materials.

Crafting recipes are organized in several different categories, as follows:

The first tab contains every recipe that has not been unlocked. - The second tab contains tools, weapons and armor. - The third tab contains building materials. The fourth tab includes food and miscellaneous items. The fifth tab contains redstone materials. MINECRAFTSERVERS.PW Recipe system[System for Recipes[

Data packs for Java Edition and add-ons to Bedrock Edition can be used to modify recipes, including crafting recipes. There are currently 379 crafting recipes available as of 1.16.

To reduce space, certain recipes are animated (requires JavaScript). On this wiki, non-shapeless recipes are identified by a pair of intertwined arrows on the graphic of the crafting table while recipes for crafting that are fixed are marked by an exclamation mark. These symbols are not visible in the game.
