Minecraft: How to Play with Friends on other Platforms Using Cross-play

Minecraft is a fantastic game to play with your friends and you can play with them regardless of platform, as long as you're playing on the identical version.



This means that you can only play with people who have the Java Edition of Minecraft. This is the same for the Bedrock Edition. If you own different versions, you'll need to purchase the other version in order to play together.



All the platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition can play together. This includes the Nintendo Switch and all other platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition, including the Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, Windows PC, and mobile devices. To use these you'll require an Microsoft account. MINECRAFT SERVER LIST If you already have an Xbox account it will work. You can also sign up for one here for free.



If you have an account with a Microsoft Account, you will need to make sure that you have added the person you want to play with to that account. This can often mean inviting a friend to join their Xbox Gamertag.



After you've sorted that out now, here's how to be a part of the same team.



Joining a gaming group with a friend



You can join a friend's hosted session by clicking on the Friends tab. As long as you're friends through Microsoft, you can join their session by going to the Friends tab and selecting "Joinable Cross-Platform Friends."



These sessions can hold only eight people at a time.



A pop-up will appear in the event that you are asked to join the session. You can accept or decline.



Invite your friends to play with you



To invite friends, use the start menu in the game. A sidebar will ask you to invite your friends. After you click "invite," you can add people from your friends list to join your game.



Be aware of which player permissions are in effect in your session (visible in settings). You can alter it so that participants in your session only view your world, or you can let them play freely, building and breaking blocks. You can also grant them administrative privileges. These rights can be granted individually by clicking on the yellow icon next to their names.



Multiplayer Multiplayer: Realms



Realms are servers that can be accessed all day long and do not require a host to play.



Invites can be sent to your Realm through your Friends tab, or through the link if you play on your PC. Clicking the link will launch the Minecraft app. Console players will need to be invited through friends list.



Once you've joined the Realm, you'll be able to return at any time you like from the Friends tab. For as long as the Realm remains online, all Reams that you have joined will be listed under "Joinable Realms". Realms can only hold 11 players at a time, so if you're not interested in joining, it could be that there are already too many people there.
