Minecraft's ray-tracing feature for Windows 10 has made its way out of beta for eight months following the feature was made available for testers. The look and feel of the sandbox game has been transformed by the addition the ability to trace rays to NVIDIA's RTX graphic cards. As we discussed in our hands-on review earlier this year the realistic lighting, reflections and shadows that this feature can bring make Minecraft feel more immersive. It's true that the game is as bloated as ever, but the in-game sunlight looks so real, for instance shadows and reflections could make you feel like you're inside the virtual world.
You'll be able experience the benefits of ray-tracing in the game if are using a computer equipped with one of the NVIDIA GPUs that are capable of the ray-tracing. The enhancements it brings will only be visible in maps and worlds that utilize a specific physically-based rendering texture pack. Presta Live However, you don't need to perform anything to enable it - it's already switched on by default. Others who don't have the feature will be able to view the worlds in the game’s standard visuals.
NVIDIA announced that ray tracing places greater demands on your GPU. So, it employs its DLSSAI rendering technology to ensure Minecraft can run at minimum 60 frames per second at a resolution of 1920x1080. More advanced GPU models (RTX 3080 and 3090) can play the game at 4K at over 60FPS.
You can download the worlds you can enjoy with ray tracing on from the Marketplace or make your own with the help from NVIDIA's starter pack in case you require it. NVIDIA and Minecraft are also offering two new worlds free of charge: Colosseum RTX has already been released, and Dungeon dash RTX is expected to be released soon.
