Father of Technoblade, YouTube Minecraft Star Says his Son has Died

He read his son's last message on the YouTube channel where the 20-something had entertained over 11 million subscribers with Minecraft gameplay and humorous comments. The title "So long nerds."

Technoblade, a YouTube celebrity who gained millions of followers with his humorous comments on videos of him playing Minecraft, has passed away his father announced via a video posted to his son's YouTube account.

More than 11 million subscribers made it a habit of watching screen recordings of Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay as he provided commentary off camera. While he was usually focused on what was happening in the game, in some videos, he described everyday life events such as visiting the D.M.V. Or as devastating as the diagnosis of cancer.

Technoblade's YouTube channel uploaded an original video titled "so long geeks" on Thursday. It was seen more than 26 million times by Friday afternoon. The video is a departure from the usual style of the channel, which features colorful bricks that are pixelated. Instead, a man who identifies himself as Technoblade's father is shown sitting in a chair on an uninspiring white backdrop with a small white dog in his lap.

His father, who doesn't identify himself, reads the message from his child that begins: "Hello everyone. Technoblade here. If you are watching this, I am dead."

The message continues to reveal Technoblade's first name, Alex. He didn’t use it on the internet. The video also contains several photos of Alex with his family and friends. He had rarely presented himself in his YouTube videos, preferring to show himself in his character: a crowned, sword-wielding pig.

Alex's letter states that "If I had another hundred years of life, I think I'd choose Technoblade each time." "Those were the happiest years of my life."

His father, who remains emotional throughout the film, says he and his son talked for months about whether or not to create a final video. His father claims that Alex wrote the letter and died eight hours later.

He states, "I don’t think he was able to say everything he wanted, but I think that he was able to get the main points."

The video concludes with a statement written by the writer attributed to Alex's mother, who is not named. She stated Alex was not famous and was self-deprecating in spite of his channel's popularity growing.

She wrote that Technoblade was always seeking ways to please and reward their fans. He offered prizes online, encouraged good sportsmanship, and most importantly, shared his Minecraft adventures to entertain and fun.

Alex's family was not able to be reached on Friday. Hypixel is a gaming company, said that Alex's family had requested no comment be sent to them. "The video they shared includes all the information they're comfortable sharing at this time," Don Pireso, the company's chief administrator stated on Twitter in a direct message.

Alex first publicly acknowledged his cancer diagnosis in a video posted to his channel in August. The video, which showed Alex speaking off camera, showed the game. He kept his self-deprecating and humorous style, avoiding any attempt to be serious. He also revealed his age, 22.

He told how his initial round of chemotherapy made him so exhausted he couldn't even sit up for a virtual appointment with a doctor. Then he made a joke: "Sitting in a chair I am Superman?"

He admitted to being diagnosed after experiencing severe pain in his arm. Although initially, he dismissed the pain as a result of repetitive stress from video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling up after a few days of rest.

He also advised people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. He said that his cancer treatments have weakened his immune system, making him more prone to serious illness caused by the coronavirus.

"I'm going to go ahead and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say that it is extremely frustrating when hospitals are overloaded with people dying of preventable diseases," he said in the video. "I'm just saying, we're entitled to those hospital beds."

Technoblade's friends, followers and followers on social media have praised his wit and humor as well as being an inspiration for Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different from other games in that the owner, Microsoft does not have control over the servers on which players can connect online. Instead, players can create their own servers and join other players to create a vast world of virtual worlds within the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel, which runs a network of Minecraft servers, said it had created a digital memorial book to allow people to write messages which would be printed and sent to the Technoblade family. The tribute of the company included a picture of Technoblade's pig-like avatar as statue. "In many ways, the success of many of us is linked to the success of Technoblade," the company stated.
