Minecraft Says it Wants nothing to do with NFTs, Blockchain

While some industries are taking a stand on NFTs, the videogame community is proving that NFTs are "No F'n Thanks" in their industry.



The latest company to take a stand against non-fungible tokens is Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.



In a statement released today on the official Minecraft website, titled simply "Minecraft and NFTs," the company clarified that it would not permit any kind of blockchain or NFT integration with its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a number of arguments for being opposed to NFTs. One reason is that they made it clear that fake scarcity plays an important part in it. NFTs, also referred to as digital assets or non-fungible tokens, are digital assets stored on blockchain. To identify ownership of a piece of NFTs, a unique token is created and linked to the media file.



The statement makes clear that Minecraft is not against revenue-generating, and uses the example of users charging for access to the Minecraft server as an approved use scenario. However, since NFTs will change the gameplay dynamics and give players with monetary advantages in games, the Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players have an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated within our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs for any game-related content, such as worlds, skins, persona items, or any other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also raised concerns regarding the reliability of third-parties who mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendency to cancel projects, and fraudulently inflate prices on NFT aftermarkets.



"No blockchain for block games," as Molly White of the website Web3 is Going Great concisely stated it. The website monitors the many scams, scams, and dramas going on in the Web3 world, which includes cryptocurrencies and NFT projects.



As White points out that the value of current (and not-approved) Minecraft NFT projects tanked due to the news of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds, which also has a token associated with it, saw the value of both the token and NFT floor prices fall by more than 70 percent.



Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to be without NFTs. Gamers have stated that they hate the idea of buying NFTs in addition to the video games they already purchase. The industry has followed their lead and listened to their anti-NFT opinions. "It's definitely not NFTs. Definitely not. You can't trade them or sell them. This isn't leveraging any blockchain technologies and definitely not NFTs," said Grace Chen, Sony VP of network marketing loyalty, loyalty, and licensed merchandise in an interview with The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios ended its statement by saying that they will monitor the development of blockchain technology to be used in future applications. However this opens the door to possible uses based on existing possibilities. However, those who dislike NFTs can get another win at the very least in the near future.
