Like Minecraft Dungeons, Legends is creating new mobs for Minecraft.
Minecraft Legends creative director Magnus Nedfors and executive producer Dennis Ries sat down during the Xbox booth livestream at Gamescom this week to provide some new information about Legends which include information on new mobs-both friends and foe. As with its past genre experiments, Mojang and Blackbird Interactive's coming RTS spinoff will make its own mark on the Minecraft world. Dungeons broke the bounds of existing Minecraft legends to create mobs to be suited to its action RPG setting and Legends is doing the same.
As we saw in its first trailer, the big baddies of Minecraft Legends are the familiar Nether inhabitants which are the Piglins. Legends will also add the "Pigmadillo" to the mix. It's an animal that crouchs in a cube and contrary to what you might believe based on the geometry of a cube's physical physics, rolls offensively towards what it is attempting to attack. There are also "Bruisers" which Ries says have two razor blades to use. Bit horror-esque, innit? The two new mobs appear in the brand new trailer that Mojang presented.
On the side of friendship, two types of golem will join your ranks: the Cobblestone Golem, who is apparently great for taking down structures of enemies and also what it is sounded like Ries calls the "Plank Golem" which is a ranged unit. They also mention speed wheat, which is the special kind of mushroom designed to jump high, which you can use to travel around the world and unlock new areas in Legends.
Minecraft Dungeons, for its part, also introduced new mobs such as the Iceologers and Mountaineers. Stuff The Minecraft Live 2020 fan vote to select which mob to include in Vanilla Minecraft to Vanilla Minecraft included the Iceologers. They lost to Glow Squid, however I wouldn't mind seeing one of these Legends baddies have the same chance to achieve Vanilla Mine fame.
In case you didn't realize that there's badgers in the trailer too. Project Badger was the codename of Minecraft Legends before it was announced. It could just be a nod to. But hey, maybe it will make its way to mob status in the future too.
