Have you been to a concert in the metaverse before? You should, as evidenced by the new category that's been added to the MTV Video Music Awards. The VMAs will award a Moon Person for "Best Metaverse Performance" this year, however it's not known if the award will be presented online or in person.
The nominees are Ariana Grande, BLACKPINK, BTS Charli XCX Justin Bieber and Twenty One Pilots. Your favorite performers have been performing in metaverse.
Each artist added their own unique twist to their metaverse performance. Ariana Grande performed a space-themed show in Fortnite and BLACKPINK brought their "pretty savage” essence to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Mobile. BTS have been singing their chart-toppers in English "Butter" and "Permission to Dance" on the stage of Minecraft where the boys' boxy avatars tried to recreate their signature dance moves. In the meantime, Charli XCX and Twenty One Pilots both chose to attend Roblox concerts. HOW ABOUT THAT (It must be noted that Charli XCX's performance was a result of her partnership with Samsung.) And Justin Bieber put on a show on Wave, the virtual entertainment platform.
And they aren't the only performers in the metaverse. During the pandemic, virtual and metaverse performances were popular. However, online and virtual performances are in the future, particularly as the metaverse becomes more engrained with out everyday lives.
The recognition at the VMAs suggests metaverse music could be a major part of the music industry. It's only time to see.
