For many reasons, autumn ranks high among my favorite seasons. It's great to see our campus back to its former glory. We are shown that every moment is a chance for a fresh start and a chance to expand our horizons.
The success of our alumni serves as a constant reminder that UC Davis is among the greatest public universities in the country, not only in terms of the quality of education our students get while they are here, but also in the real world.
Once again, the No. 1 ranking by US News & World Report was a source of pride for us. Last month, these 10 public universities were ranked as the best in the country. When considering research, social mobility, and public service, Washington Monthly selected UC Davis as the second-best public institution in the United States.
Achieving and maintaining the position of No. Local News, News, Charlottee News to its high earnings and influential alumni, Forbes has ranked the university as the number four public university in America for 2022.
All of these awards are a testament to the high quality of education offered on this campus. It's a poignant reminder of the two years we spent actively serving the public throughout the pandemic. Healthy Davis Together, a coalition of local organizations, is continuing to garner national notice for its initiatives.
The scope and quality of our research efforts have also increased. By August of this year, UC Davis had received more than $1 billion in research funding for the entire fiscal year. The number of public universities in the United States that can say the same is in the low double digits.
