These Accounts are Usually Reported Rapidly

Secondary accounts, also known as alternate accounts or alts, are typically lower-level or accounts that are less frequently used (some of them are pure and throwaway accounts).

A throwaway account can also be called a rag or a Ragger. It is an account that has been set up to perform a specific task and the owner does not intend to further develop it. It is sometimes used to accomplish something threatening or controversial like griefing or ragging, which is the act of deliberately damaging the gaming experience of other players by using elements of the game in unintended ways or disrupting the community. (The practice is also referred to as ragging.) It is also used to revisit or experience low-level content and quests.

Legal usage[edit

Many players prefer to play both an ironman and a normal account to get a different experience. This is also the case for pures.

A common use of alternate accounts is to earn money while training skills on the main account which allows players to accumulate the wealth while using costly methods that offer high levels of experience. Merchanting, Runecraft, and killing profitable Slayer monsters are common methods of money making to achieve this goal, since they require little effort and allow for playing two accounts at the same time.

Secondary accounts can be used as scouts to evaluate Wilderness dangers (e.g. Mining runite or King Black Dragon hunting), as storage, in which case they are known as mule or mules accounts (mules are not allowed in Deadman Mode), to repair the Blast Furnace and a myriad of other tasks, provided they are of sufficient level. Secondary accounts are crucial for scouts because they assist you in avoiding risks and protect your main account from being killed by a killer player. Also, as a player killer, a scout could be employed to find potential victims.

Players sometimes make use of throwaway accounts to access the latest content they've already completed for their more advanced characters. When an update to tutorials (Tutorial Island, Troll Warzone, Ashdale, etc.) is released players can make throwaway accounts to explore the new content. was released on RuneScape 3, many players created throwaway accounts to explore the new content. Typically these accounts are discarded and never reactivated.

Quests such as Heroes' Quest or Shield of Arrav require a partner. But, you'll need to have both accounts active at the same time and, as such is completely legal so long as it doesn't involve rulebreaking or glitching. [2]

In addition, prior to the Custom Nightmare Zone update, players used booster accounts that required certain quests to unlock certain bosses that are geared towards the player's specific requirements for combat and build. Nightmare Zone boosting is still possible, but it has seen a decline in popularity after the update.

Prohibited usage[edit edit sourceProhibited usage[edit

Gold-farming bots are a different type of a fraudulent throwaway account. These bots are designed to continuously play the game to produce gold that can be sold to players for real money (i.e. trading in real-world markets. Accounts are also used as auto-talkers to promote websites that trade RuneScape gold.

Throwaway accounts are also used to harass and scam other players. These accounts are typically reported swiftly and banned as soon as is possible. They do not have any effect on the community's well being.

modify sourcePunishment[edit

While other players are able to ignore the player, untrue throwaway accounts are often reported by Jagex moderators and banned. Jagex moderators may trace accounts that are thrown away in rare instances. This could lead to action being taken against the user's main account. Although a throwaway account can be considered illegal, it is also possible to pursue legal action against the owner of the account.

Rights to personal data [edit

Players are allowed to:

Request access to their personal information - Change their personal details - Permanently disable their account and remove their personal information Limit the processing of their data Request information regarding their personal Data Subject Access Request (requires login). Jagex must respond to the outcome of the request within 3 months, and inform the user that the request will take longer than one month to process.
