Xbox has joined forces with preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) as well as a group of British creatives to create an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. This impressive, complex build was funded by Xbox UK in the National Trust's festival archaeology. It encourages people to build their own ruin with the help of foundations.
Grian who is a YouTube video maker, created this first build. You can view his work in the video above as well as on YouTube. (opens in an entirely new tab) Grian created a build that highlights the most striking Corfe Castle's features, such as its historical octagonal tower miniature palace and "Gloriette". It's a medieval Kingly version I believe, of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done an amazing job of restoring Corfe Castle to its former glory. He not only managed to create an exact replica of the various styles within the castle grounds but also combined it with his own creativity. Martin Papworth, an archaeologist with the National Trust, said that we are eager to see more inspiring designs from the next generation of young minds."
You can download Corfe's ruins yourself by checking out the Minecraft server corfe.ruinsreimagined.com. The ruin can be downloaded as a bundle for Minecraft: Education Edition to be used in classrooms. Games Learn more about the project on Microsoft's site. (opens in new tab)
