Scotland - The Highlands and Islands
The Highlands were once home to large communities of crofters. Then, due to clan warfare, they began to be secluded. Landowners thought sheep were more profitable to graze than crofting and the Highland Clearances were enforced, sometimes with massive force. The result was massive evictions, and eventually the exile of the Highlanders. Highlanders eventually relocated to smaller settlements by the sea and were able to survive on fishing, kelp farming and farming. Later, massive infrructure structures were able to provide some relief.

Lowland Scotland is home to Scottish Gaelic

In 2001, there were over 45 percent of Gaelic speakers who lived outside of the Highlands and Islands. The figure might not be exact, as only a handful of people speak Gaelic in Lowland Scotland. The University was established in 1598 by the Duke of Argyll. It is known as the "Oxford of Scotland" due to its long history of excellence in education. The rich cultural heritage of the area is also evident in its architecture. A number of the structures in the town are listed on the World Heritage List.

Lewis is a marshy peat bog

Lewis is an isolated, uninhabited island located in west Scotland. Its peatbog, covering more than 1000 hectares is the largest in Europe. Peat is the result of plant material that has been left to decay in an area with low oxygen. It is often found in low-lying marshy areas as well as upland areas. Peat is made up of plant as well as insects, fungi animal corpses, grasses and other organic remains. These organic materials are not in a position to break down without oxygen, and create a rich peat mass.

The bog is so huge that it is unaccessible to anyone who isn't in it which is why elephants and gorillas are the only ones who call it home. It is possible to swim in the bog during dry seasons but it's not possible for humans to swim during the wet seasons. Researchers needed to build platforms in certain areas so that they wouldn't get soaked.

Dunfermline was the capital of Scotland

Dunfermline is rich in its history. Many notable acts have been recorded from the area. Industrialization was one of the major features of the early modern age. This included salt panning and limestone quarrying, coal mining linen weaving, and limestone quarrying. The early industrial villages were linked to small ports along the Forth River. Later, the Victorian era brought more industrialization, shipping, and railways.

The palace was home to many British and Scottish monarchs including King Charles I. The palace was filled with lavish pomp and splendor until the court relocated to London in 1603. It is situated in the shadow of Dunfermline Abbey, which has been used for meetings and religious services for centuries.

Iona is a retreat for the religious for the religious and ecumenical.
